Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How does the booking process work?
A: In order to book DJ Afrolicious, you will have to sign an agreement and pay a deposit. Once the agreement is signed & the deposit is paid, your booking will be confirmed and we can then proceed to digging into the finer details for the event.
Q: What happens after the booking is confirmed?
A: After the booking is confirmed, the DJ will need to receive a playlist from the client to learn their music preferences for the event. For weddings, there will be some additional forms and a checklist the client must fill out to ensure every detail is accounted for.
Q: Do you provide your own equipment?
A: Yes, I provide all the equipment necessary to perform my set. This includes my turntables, speakers, a table, and all other electrical cords and plug-ins.
Q: How long does it take to set up/breakdown?
A: Setup and takedown can take anywhere between 1-4 hours depending on how much equipment is needed. Therefore, the DJ will come ahead of time to setup accordingly.
Q: How do you accept payments?
A: Payments can be made through HoneyBook or cash upon request. The total payment must be paid 7 days before the event date.
Q: What types of music do you play?
A: My main niche is Hip-Hop/Rap and Old School 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s music. The other genres I also play include Pop, Rock, Reggae, and a little bit of Hispanic/Latin, Country, and Afrobeats.
Q: Do you provide a microphone or MC services?
A: Yes, MC services come free for any event. MC services include a wireless dynamic microphone which can be used by anyone. MC services are set up automatically for weddings. For other events, just ask in advance for a microphone so it can be set up in a timely manner.
Q: What is it that you do as the DJ?
A: There’s a lot of work that goes into performing and prepping for the set including going through the provided playlist and organizing the music accordingly. Performances are always done on the spot with a vast majority of it being improvised. This allows for the performances to be more dynamic, allowing the DJ to change course depending on how the guests are feeling. What you’re essentially paying for is the behind-the-scenes labor, set up and takedown labor, driving and gas costs, and the DJ service itself.
